The fastest road in the city and the least forgiving place to break down. Get the car off the carriageway and yourself behind the barrier, then call. We come to you.
Keep the wheel straight, let the car slow without hard braking, and get onto the shoulder. Then everybody out on the far side and behind the barrier.
Do not try to reach the next exit. Stop, switch off, leave the cap alone, and tell us which interchange you last passed.
Call before you decide. Some faults mean keep going to the next exit and some mean stop now, and it is worth thirty seconds to know which.
It happens, the exits are a long way apart. We bring enough to get you to a pump and say nothing more about it.

The Ring Road is the one stretch we cover where the road itself is more dangerous than whatever is wrong with the car. Traffic moves at motorway speed, the exits are far apart, and a driver who has just had a failure often keeps going in the hope of reaching one. Sometimes that is right and often it is not, which is why the first thing we ask is what the car is actually doing.
If the engine has overheated or the temperature is climbing, stop. If a tyre has gone, stop. If it is a warning light and the car is driving normally, reaching the next interchange is usually the better plan, and we will tell you which of those you are in when you call rather than leaving you to guess.
Once you are stopped, the shoulder is not a safe place to stand. Get everybody out on the far side and behind the barrier if there is one, and stay there until the van arrives. We would rather find you fifty metres from the car than beside it.
It depends entirely on the fault. A tyre or an overheating engine means stop now, because carrying on turns a cheap problem into an expensive or a dangerous one. A warning light on a car that is driving normally usually means reach the exit. Call and we will tell you which one you have.
The last interchange you passed and the direction you were travelling. That is enough for the technician to find you, and it is far more reliable on this road than an address or a landmark.
We do not tow, but we will tell you straight away whether the job can be done where you are, and help arrange recovery if it cannot. You pay the call-out rather than for work that was never going to be possible on the shoulder.
