Vehicle rentals

How renting on Carbid works

Renting a vehicle in Pakistan usually means a phone call, a price you cannot check and no record of what was agreed. This is the same trade done in the open: published rates, a real calendar, and a booking that exists in writing. Here is exactly what happens, on both sides.

If you want to rent a vehicle

  1. 1

Find a vehicle and check the dates

Filter by city, vehicle type, seats and budget. Each listing shows a calendar of what is already booked, and whether the rental company offers it with a driver, for self drive, or either way.

  2. 2

    Pick your exact period

Choose the pickup and return day and time. A rental starting at 9am and one starting at 7pm are not the same booking, so the times are part of it. We count whole days and round up, and a longer period automatically uses the better weekly or monthly rate the company publishes.

  3. 3

    Send the booking request

You will see the total and the upfront before you commit. Sending the request holds those dates for you for a limited time, and tells the rental company somebody wants the vehicle.

  4. 4

Pay the upfront, and we confirm it

Send the upfront to one of the accounts we publish and give us the transaction id. A member of our team checks it against the account and confirms it by hand. That confirmation is what actually books the vehicle.

  5. 5

The rental company takes it from there

Once confirmed you get their phone number and the pickup details, and they get your number. Anything left to pay, the security deposit and the condition check at handover are settled directly with them.

If you rent vehicles out

Carbid already brings people who are looking for a vehicle. Listing your fleet puts it in front of them, with your rates and your availability, and without you answering the same five questions on the phone forty times a week.

  1. 1

    Register your business

Sign up as you would for anything else on Carbid, then add your business name, contact person, address, city and opening hours. It takes a couple of minutes.

  2. 2

    We verify you

Our team checks the business exists and is who it says it is. Nothing of yours is public until that is done, and you will get a notification either way.

  3. 3

    Add your fleet

For each vehicle: what it is, how many it seats, photos, whether you offer it with a driver or for self drive, and your rates per day, week and month for each. Set a security deposit and a mileage allowance if you charge for them.

  4. 4

Block out the dates you cannot take

Servicing, an existing booking taken over the phone, a family use. Blocked dates show as unavailable to customers, and no booking can land on top of them.

  5. 5

    Take bookings

When a customer books, you are told straight away. When their upfront is confirmed, you are told again and the booking is real. You can acknowledge it so the customer knows it is in hand, or decline it if something has changed.

Questions people ask

Does Carbid own these vehicles?
No. Every vehicle for rent belongs to an independent rental business. We verify the business, handle the booking and the upfront, and help if something goes wrong. The rental agreement itself is between you and them.
What is the upfront for, and is it extra?
It is a part payment of the rental, not an extra fee. It is adjusted against what you owe. It exists so a booking means something: without it anyone could hold a vehicle's calendar for free.
Is my booking confirmed as soon as I submit it?
No, and the site will not tell you otherwise. Submitting holds the dates for a limited period. The booking is confirmed when your upfront reaches us and a member of our team confirms it. If it does not arrive in time, the hold lapses and the dates go back.
Can I pay by card?
Not on the website. Carbid does not take card payments, and nothing is held in escrow. You send the upfront to one of the accounts we publish, give us the reference, and a person confirms it.
What do I need to bring for a self drive rental?
A valid Pakistani driving licence for that class of vehicle, and your CNIC. The rental company can refuse to hand over the vehicle if you cannot produce them, so check before you book.
What happens if I return it late?
Late returns are charged at the rental company's own rate, and if somebody else has the vehicle booked after you, returning late affects their booking too. Tell the company as early as you can.
What if the rental company cannot supply the vehicle?
They can decline a booking, and we will tell you. Anything you paid upfront is returned to you in full. Until we build card payments, that return is arranged by a person on our team rather than happening automatically.
Can I rent a van, a truck or a bus rather than a car?
Yes, where a partner lists one. Carbid handles any kind of vehicle, so the rental section carries whatever our partners put on it, from a small hatchback to a coaster.
